Artist Interview: Court Lee & “Pretty Little Sunset”
I have thoroughly enjoyed listening to this song. It’s one of those that leaves you wanting more and more, and it’s vibes bring me to a time I’d spend with my family on the lake in Wyoming by our home. This blog marks the 11th, so we’re going to switch it up for the next 10. I hope you enjoy this short interview with the artist known as “Court Lee”.
1. What was the inspiration behind this song?
A beach party! It was "golden hour", and everyone was taking pictures of each other. I was afraid to ask, and nobody asked me. The missed opportunity made me quite sad, so I wrote a song about it!
2. When was it written? Does that have anything to do with the theme?
The melody and lyrics were written on August 17, 2021, a few days after the party. The feeling of being undesirable and wasting an opportunity were still fresh in my mind at that point, so it definitely influenced the theme. I returned to it, writing the instrumentals, in the spring of 2023, and the rest's history! I couldn't have done it without the kindness of Lance Collins (engineer), Chris (cover art) and OrangeLapiz (notator)!!
3. It’s a pretty short song, is there a longer version out there we should know about?
Not yet in the works, but I do plan on remaking it with a longer, more "normal" structure within the next few years!
4. In the song you switch up the lyrics to “pretty summer sunset” from “pretty little sunset” Was there a certain meaning behind that?
Thank you for noticing! It's nothing too crazy. I just thought the switch-up was a nice change from the repetitive "pretty little sunset" for every verse. It was actually a last minute change in the recording studio! I feel that it also gives more pull to the "summer sunset" vibe.
5. Now tell us about yourself! What inspired you to make music? Where are you from? Anything you’d like the audience to know?
Fun facts about me! I am: studying industrial engineering, a dog mom and a green thumb! I've always wanted to make music! As a kid, I used to record little melodies, but couldn't quite figure it out. It wasn't until Lance, Noel and I had these one hour song challenges that I wrote my first song at twenty-one! I'm from Rhode Island, USA!
6. Any new projects in the works?
Yes! To be mixed and mastered are my upcoming singles "Love's a Waltz", "Together", "Bare", and "Snow Angels"!
7. Final words of wisdom for our readers?
Pursue your dreams, even if it's not on a "larger than life" scale! You likely won't know if you truly like it until you try! Be smart, be efficient, but most importantly, find enjoyment in the process! You got this!
