Powder Burns- Old Man Mike

Across the pond.

I think my absolute favorite part of this submission is the hook/chorus. It sits nicely over the very minimalistic beat, definitely giving me an eerie feeling, which, coupled with the verse and lyrics it’s no wonder why.

It’s not really a conspiracy anymore.

The internet is great for a few things. One, for connecting artists and producers from all over the world together to make a concert for 12 year olds in Fortnite. Another is for taking what society used to deem as “conspiracies” and literally throwing them in our face. I have a friend who’s “worn a tin hat” for a while, and now everything he used to say is coming to fruition. That’s kind of the way general society will see a song like this, and has since the dawn of music. We can’t talk about taboo subjects. Oh no, not unless we find our tribe.

Well, you found one my guy.

I’m here for this track. I love the content and the “true” education approach. Music can be used for many different things, as stated. It’s been used to coerce men to war, choirs to sing, and funerals to lament. The lyricism was pretty interesting as well. I am a nerd when it comes to words. How they flow. What they mean. If they have cool ways you can say them with different dialects. This one definitely got me there.

“If you like your parables metaphoric as opposed to on the nose

This was a line that really stood out to my ears when listening. I really enjoyed thinking about how that was structured while trying to decipher the subsequent bars. Later on in the song it talks about demons from the 9th dimension and I’ll be honest it’s taken me 3-4 listens to catch a few of the lines in this beauty.

I’m glad you didn’t go with Lil Mike.

Because the goal to be opposite of the movement of carbon copy, autotune rappers with your sound and delivery is spot on. I enjoyed this, and will check out some more of the tunes Old Man.

Cuz you’re never to old to be educated.
